Just a short rant

While I am really excited for all my peeps in LV who are getting lots of snow I just have to say that yesterday, while my family in the desert was enjoying building snowmen and having snowball fights, I had to shovel the driveway TWICE before 11:00a.m. That's right folks, once at 5 in the morning and once again at 10:30. The boys played on the lawn while I did this and the snow came up to Clayton's thighs and Noah's waist (poor kid couldn't move). Needless to say, I am NOT dreaming of a white Christmas (and perhaps I am the only one)! I also had to laugh that they (LV) got a snow day. I realize that LV isn't prepared for any snow at all, but 6 inches here is nothing. It takes multiple feet for them to cancel school (which did actually happen this week). I don't mean to be a downer, but I had to share my thoughts on snow. Here are a few things I've learned about the snow (so pay attention Las Vegans, I'm imparting my wisdom):

1. Shoveling snow when it is still actually snowing may seem idiotic, but it isn't. If you wait for it to finish snowing before you shovel you end up having to dig yourselves out of 6 feet of snow (true story) which took Justin about 5 hours.
2. If you don't buy your children their snow pants in October, don't bother getting them any at all. If you wait until it has started snowing to buy them their snow gear - you won't be able to find it.
3. Don't buy snow boots at Wal Mart. Yes, they're cheap - but they are useless (although, I probably should have known better).
4. Don't ever scrape your car without gloves on. I don't care how careful you think you will be or how "macho" you may think you are, it's cold and cold sucks. Don't attempt putting your hands in your sleeves and scraping that way - you'll just end up with snow inside your coat. Put on some gloves. Cold hands are not that much worse than cold feet (although cold feet and a cold neck are the two worst).
5. Wear snow boots to church. Yes, it's a lovely fashion statement (that I make just about every Sunday in the winter) but ladies dress shoes are NOT designed for winter. You may think that your lovely dress boots will be fine, they won't...they will be SLIPPERY!! I've learned - wear your big, nasty, ugly snow boots to church and just carry your pretty ones and change once you're inside. SO much better (even if you look like a fool for a minute)!!
6. Finally, when shoveling (can't you tell I just did this) shovel EVERYTHING! Even if it's the part of the driveway that you never use - it will inevitably be the part of the driveway that you slip and fall on later.

You are probably thinking, "wow she's so wise, does she know more?" Yes I do, I have decided that I am a snow genius (although Justin will probably wet himself from laughing when he reads that). In fact, if you have any snow-related questions, feel free to ask and I will impart my infinite wisdom on the masses. But for now, my Vegas friends, I hope my knowledge has helped you out.

**On a totally unrelated note, our PC died last week. It was very tragic and we are still mourning its loss. Therefore, I have to post from Justin's laptop. It has no card reader (yet) so I am unable to post pics. Hopefully we will get one (a card reader) soon and the pics will be back.**

I'm glad that I don't have deal with tons of snow on a daily basis, I don't envy you at all. I wanted to buy Jaylee snow boots so bad yesterday, too bad Jared didn't trust me to drive to Target in the snow. Call us when you guys are here, we would love to see you.

You are a funny gal! Great wisdom, but I'm afraid we won't really need to use it here in Vegas. Very helpful though for out of town trips. I love that you wear snow boots to church. Hey sometimes you can't be worryin about fashion, but I am glad you change when you get in the building. How are you feeling anyway?

Thanks for the great laugh! Thankfully (?) the snow didn't stick around for long and the kids got to enjoy a nice day off of school. Sounds like you have learned a lot living in the snow, what a lifestyle change!

I agree with all the snow stuff. We're supposed to get another 6-8 inches today I heard...The reunion was fun! I brought my camera with me but forgot to take pictures. I saw Kara, Emily, Ashley, Reagan, Jenni Merriman, Joe Gucciburu, Brandi Christofferson, Stuart and Bryan, Amber Kennedy, and a few others. It was fun. A lot of them went over to Roadrunner's (a bar) afterwards and that's where I saw Stuart and Bryan-they didn't go to the reunion. I'm going back down to Vegas in January while Curry is in Africa and I'm going to try and see Stuart and Bryan's band while I'm down there. I had fun seeing everyone-I'm glad I went...

Ariane i totally understand. I was cracking up they had a "snow day" in Vegas my mom said it was all`melted and 45 degrees during this said "snow day". They NEVER cancel school here I swear. we have been pounded with snow lately. It is annoying when I need to go to the store and they don't plow yet! They had 110 slide off's right when it hit. I guess that is normal for the first big snow. I must say you are a champ shoveling andbeing pregnant. You go! I was going to ask you if you all had power. I heard like over a million peopled in your neck of the woods were out of power because of ice storms. Hope ya'll are good!!!

Snow in Vegas is fun. But last winter when we were in Boise, it snowed too many times for me to like snow anymore. I kinda hated it. Because i was the heel-wearing one or the flip-flops. And we had to shovel the driveway too many times in one week. So I totally hear you on living in places where it snows a lot. And it snows way more where you are than it ever did in Boise. I bet you are so excited to see the sunshine when it comes. Last winter was so depressing to me! Good luck with all your snowy days ahead.

They closed schools in Diamond Valley (just outside of St. George) on Tuesday because they had 2 inches. Let me repeat that...2 inches as in 1+1=2 inches!!!! hahahaha I made my kids walk to the bus stop this morning in knee high snow! Evil I know but I wasn't going to go out in that crap to drive them up there. It was cold!!Besides now they can tell their kids, "When I was your age...."

I love your list! And THAT is why I don't live anywhere where it REALLY snows! Otherwise I think I'd hate snow. I knew that people who get real snow would laugh at us and our "snow day." Good luck with the rest of the winter!

I'll try to use this wisdom when we get 1/2 inch ten years from now. Thanks!

It was awesome! I was loving it and especially my kids, but to deal with it everyday. I don't think so. I remember living in snow when i went to school in cedar. Anyway, I hope your feeling good and hope you and your fam have a Merry Christmas! Take care.
