Spooky Treats

On Saturday we decided we needed a project to do. Clayton is always asking me if we can do projects is quick to make suggestions. Unfortunately his suggestions rarely make sense to me (he wanted to make ribbons this weekend, I didn't understand and he couldn't adequately explain). So I looked on the internet and found a super cute project on Our Best Bites (if you haven't been there, go - it's yummy). On the website, her bats are perfectly cute and said it took her no time at all to make them. Easy and fast? Count me in! I had the genius idea to make a few baskets of these adorable bat cookies with the kids and then deliver some to our friends. About ten seconds into the project I had a few realizations: 1) the woman who did this online obviously did NOT do these with three little kids and 2) there is no way we could be sharing these cookies with anyone (imagine a lot of finger licking, cookie breaking, and ill covered coughs/sneezes). So friends who are sad right now that they aren't getting any cookies - you're welcome!
Even though this project didn't turn out as I'd pictured it, it was still a lot of fun. My kids had a great time and I had a great time with them.
Dipping oreos in chocolate.
Josie was surprisingly good at doing this project. She was actually the most careful. Go figure.
We got candy eyeballs to put on our bats. Whoever invented these was genius!

Noah's bats rarely made it out of the chocolate alive. He was so aggressive dipping them that they usually crumpled and fell apart in the bowl. Who's surprised?
Adding eyeballs
Clayton's turn
Those eyeballs (while cute) were really tricky for the kids. Most of our eyes are covered with chocolate fingerprints.
The finished product!
Up close.
Cute right? We'll definitely be trying these again next year (and perhaps then we can make some that are sanitary enough to share).
While the chocolate was setting we made mummy dogs for lunch. I LOVE this meal (but not as much as my kids)!
I love how this is so simple, yet my kids think I'm the best mom ever for thinking of it. Hee hee!
Josie's always looked a little smashed (she struggled with the rolling aspect of this project) but since these were for the kids to eat for lunch, no one cared!
Once they were cooked we gave them little Katsup and Mustard faces. Spooky.
And we can't forget about our Sammie-girl! She was a bit too young to help us with our delicious projects this year and next year she probably won't be the big helper that she'll think she is, but we loved having her sit in her bouncy seat and watch us!
My bookends!
For dinner that night I made soup and breadsticks. Everytime I get the beaters out, Josie appears (although let's face it, anytime I get any kitchen gadget out she appears). I let her help me make the breadsticks. This girl loves to cook. Perhaps one day she'll make all our meals (oh to dream...).
We had fun with our projects. It was time consuming, super messy, and pretty loud but I wouldn't trade that afternoon for anything. Fun times with fun kids!

Super cute! Isn't the internet great? We get to steal fun ideas from other people. I love your description of the finger licking sneezing going on...yum! Also, I meant to comment forever go about when your parents were out. They are AWESOME! I get help, but not anything close to that. I totally agree that that's the type of mom I want to be when my kids are older.
