We'll start with Jo. (**Side note: do you love this outfit that she picked out for herself? I do. I haven't picked out her clothes in about 6 months now - she won't let me. However, I do love seeing what she chooses everyday. Girl's got style!**)
Height: 36 inches (25th percentile)
Weight: 27 pounds (10th percentile)
Josie is little. Petite, if you will. Ever since her 18 month well check she's been getting smaller and smaller (percentage wise - she's not actually shrinking). She does gain every year though, her growth is proportionate, and there is nothing out of the ordinary in her eating habits or her development so we don't worry about her. She's small. Since Justin and I are her parents this should come as no surprise.
What she lacks in size she makes up for in sass and spunk. This little girl has personality plus! She was very perky and happy and did whatever the doctor asked her to do. She jumped around, stood on one foot (in an arabesque no less - just like my little dancer), sang her ABC's, identified shapes and colors, and counted to 10. I admit, I don't work with her the way I used to with the boys when they were little (poor third child) so she wasn't as on top of things as they were at this age but her doc was still impressed with how ahead of the game she seemed! Josie kept the doctor laughing and smiling. I was so proud of how well she did (because if you have ever had experience with a three year old you know how fast things can go downhill). She was perfectly charming and perfectly ahead of the game developmentally.
Now Sammie.
Height: 29.5 inches (85th percentile)
Weight: 22.5 pounds (85th percentile)
Unlike Josie, Sammie is a BIG girl! Our doctor told us that she is the size of the average 14 month old. She also pointed out that we may want to check the weight/ height limit on our infant seat. It's a good thing she did! The limit on our infant seat is 22 pounds and 30 inches. I've never had a baby outgrow their infant seat before a year (even Clayton - and he was a pretty big baby)! She is steadily getting smaller though - at her last check she was in the 90th percentile for weight and off the charts for height - so I'm guessing that by the time she's three she'll probably pretty petite herself (because what are the odds of one of our kids staying big?).
Developmentally we're still working on it. Sammie has perfectly average fine motor skills. Her gross motor skills still require work. She still wears her foot braces. However, she is showing improvement! She can now sit on her own and bear weight on her legs. She isn't showing any signs of crawling and cannot get to a sitting position on her own though so physical therapy is still necessary. Our doctor doesn't seem worried though. She said that by two years old she thinks Sammie will be all caught up and running around with everyone else.
Like Josie, Sammie has quite the personality! She's a charmer for sure. She was cooing at the doctor, babbling to her, and smiling throughout her whole appointment. The doctor asked me about stranger anxiety but - in true Smith style - Sammie seems to have none. She's equal opportunity charming (although I will say that she saves the best smiles and laughs for her family).
We love these two little (and big) girls and are so grateful that they are happy and healthy...
...and sometimes crazy and mischevious.

I love the pictures of the girls together! So cute! Also it makes me sad that Sammie is growing up so fast, tell her she needs to stop and stay a baby :).
